Metaverse: the Next Step in the Evolution of Art and Technology

Everyone is talking about the metaverse nowadays, but what exactly is it, and why are we even trying to build it?

The hype around the metaverse promises that it will be the next step in the co-evolution of humans and technology as we finally escape our physical forms and unleash ourselves into a shared digital reality. Will it be a place where we can explore new forms of governance and communication, or where we can find new ways to work, live, play and express ourselves? The metaverse is a hive mind of multiple virtual realities that will usher in the next age of shared "immersive experiences". This webinar brings together some of the region’s mavericks of the metaverse who are building the businesses and platforms that open up conversations about the way that we think about the metaverse.

This webinar organised by Y-Lab—a product innovation lab at the National Gallery of Singapore—will feature presentations from Dr Loretta Chen (CEO, Smobler Studios) and Duncan Bass (Curator, Singapore Art Museum), and Pey Chuan Tan (Curator, Meta Open Arts). The presentations will be followed by a group panel moderated Shengen Lim (New Media Artist, National Gallery Singapore).
